  1. EWI Service duct within Insulation - flush face

A detail demonstrating a recessed, insulated services run for an exterior wall, within an external wall insulation system. Used where service runs such as soil pipes or ventilation ducts are to be contained within the depth of the insulation, meaning an accessible service void should be created.

Prior to work carry out a visual inspection of the services to be enclosed within service void, to ensure in sound condition before constructing service void.

  2. EWI Service duct within Insulation - Stepped face

A detail for an insulated services run within an external wall insulation system, stepped in from the finished face of the wall. Used where service runs such as soil pipes or ventilation ducts are to be contained within the depth of the insulation, meaning an accessible service void should be created.

Prior to work carry out a visual inspection of the services to be enclosed within service void, to ensure in sound condition before constructing service void.

  3. EWI around meter box

Detail for external wall insulation to new/existing meter box. This detail presumes the application of internal wall insulation, on the interior side of the wall opposite the meter box at a future date to prevent cold bridging, but does not require the installation of both external and internal insulation at the same time.

Because of the the need to keep a required distance around gas meters and pipes as part of EWI works, it is recommended that Internal wall insulation be installed at a future date to the internal wall behind the existing meter. A 300mm overlap to the EWI on the external wall combined with insulation works to the existing ground floor is expected to mitigate cold bridging caused by carrying the EWI around the meter box.

  4. EWI around meter box with perimeter insulation

EWI detail around existing meter box, where perimeter insulation has to be provided around the base of an external wall, due to excavation work around new/existing gas pipes, in order to mitigate cold bridging.
